It All Starts With A Passion

I was raised in a world immersed in sports. Sports, and being active, ran in my blood, from soccer on fall Saturday mornings, basketball in the winter, and softball all spring and summer; I was never lacking in activities to partake in. I lived by the phrase “go big or go home.” I practiced hard; I played hard; and I won big. Not only was I good at what I did, but I also loved what I did.  It was simply who I was. However, if one always plays hard, and without caution, one is bound to wind up getting an injury. This very thing happened to me, multiple times. In the first basketball game of eighth grade, I tore some of the ligaments in my ankle. After seeing the orthopedist and having it taken care of, the doctor referred me to go to a physical therapist, to build the strength back up in my ankle. Up until this point, I had always wanted to be a doctor. That was until I had been introduced to the world of physical therapy though. Physical therapy seems like the perfect job for me! I will get to set my own hours, not battle through as much additional education, and I will get to combine two of my passions: sports and helping others get better. While admittedly I do not know all the answers and concepts of physical therapy, I hope to discover exactly how to become a physical therapist and learn what exactly a physical therapist is. I want to do this not only benefit myself and my future, but also for any other person who may be interested in something in the medical field and still wavering on what exactly they want to do.
